Tipili in the Tamil language possibly refers to ±Ê¾±±è±è²¹±ôÄ«, a medicinal plant identified with Piper longum Linn. or “Indian long pepperâ€� from the Piperaceae or ‘pepperâ€� family of flowering plants, according to verse 6.11-13 of the 13th-century Raj Nighantu or RÄjanighaṇṭu. The sixth chapter (±è¾±±è±è²¹±ô²âÄå»å¾±-±¹²¹°ù²µ²¹) of this book enumerates ninety-five varieties of plants obtained from the market (±è²¹á¹‡y²¹³Üá¹£a»å³ó¾±). Other than the Tamil word Tipili, there are more synonyms identified for this plant among which nineteen are in Sanskrit.
