Source: Wisdom Library: Brihat Samhita by Varahamihira厂惫腻诲丑测腻测补诲丑补谤尘补 (啶膏啶掂ぞ啶о啶ぞ啶ぇ啶班啶�) or simply Sv膩dhy膩ya refers to 鈥渢hose acting up to the Vedic principles鈥�, according to the B峁沨atsa峁僪it膩 (chapter 5), an encyclopedic Sanskrit work written by Var膩hamihira mainly focusing on the science of ancient Indian astronomy astronomy (Jyoti峁).鈥擜ccordingly, 鈥淚f there should be both lunar and solar eclipses in one month, princes will suffer both from dissensions among their own army and from wars. [...] If the eclipses should fall within lunar month of M膩gha, persons noted for filial duty, the descendants of Vasi峁ａ弓ha, men acting up to the Vedic principles [i.e., 蝉惫腻诲丑测腻测补诲丑补谤尘补-苍颈谤补迟补], elephant and horses will suffer distress; the people of Va峁単a of A峁単a, and of Benares will be afflicted with miseries; and there will be rain suited to the wants of the ryots鈥�.
Jyotisha (啶溹啶啶むた啶�, 箩测辞迟颈峁 or jyotish) refers to 鈥榓stronomy鈥� or 鈥淰edic astrology鈥� and represents the fifth of the six Vedangas (additional sciences to be studied along with the Vedas). Jyotisha concerns itself with the study and prediction of the movements of celestial bodies, in order to calculate the auspicious time for rituals and ceremonies.
