The seven metres गायत्री, उष्णिक�, अनुष्टुप�, बृहती, पङ्क्त�, त्रिष्टुप् (ⲹٰī, ṣṇ, Գṣṭܱ, ṛhī, 貹ṅkپ, ٰṣṭܱ) and जगती (Ჹī) consisting respectively of 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44 and 48 syllables are named ऋषिच्छन्दस� (ṛṣԻ岹) as contrasted with the metres दै�, प्राजापत्य (daiva, 貹ٲⲹ) and आसुर (ܰ), which, when combined together, make the metres of the Vedic seers, For details see R.
