Revamma or Revanna is a common name among the Lingayats: a peaceable race of Hindus who acknowledge only one God, Siva, and reject the other two persons of the Hindu Triad. Revamma or Revanna is named after Revana Sideswara, the founder of the Balehalli mutt. The Lingayats reverence the Vedas, but disregard the later commentaries on which the Brahmans rely. Their faith purports to be the primitive Hindu faith, cleared of all priestly mysticism.
