: Indian Journal of History of Science, 31(4), 1996: Mūṣāvijñāna鲹ܱⲹūṣ� (रौप्यमूष�) or simply Raupya refers to an “crucible for silver� and is a type of ūṣ� (crucible) used for smelting metals.—Raupya-ūṣ� is a special crucible made of white-earth, medicinal herbs which are white such as Śvetaguñjā (a variety of Abrus precatorus, Linn. having white seeds), Nadyāvarta (Ervatamia divaricata, Linn.) etc. When a calx of silver is made in this crucible it becomes very white in colour. Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics.
