: archive.org: Shiva Purana - English Translation¸é²¹²õ²¹±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ (रसलिङà¥à¤�) refers to a type of Cara±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ (mobile ±ô¾±á¹…g²¹), as mentioned in the ÅšivapurÄṇa 1.18. Accordingly, “[...] now, first of all I shall mention the ¸é²¹²õ²¹±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ from among Cara±ô¾±á¹…g²¹s. (¸é²¹²õ²¹±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ is mentioned as the foremost among mobile ±ô¾±á¹…g²¹s). ¸é²¹²õ²¹±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ is a bestower of all wishes to the Brahmins. [...] If a devotee does not possess a Liá¹…ga of his own, there is no harm in using another’s Liá¹…ga for the purpose of worship. [...] O sages of good rites, in the cases of widows whether they be in a childhood, youth or old age, a rasa±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ is specially recommended if they continue to be holding rites. [...] When the worship is over, the Liá¹…ga shall be kept in a casket and placed separately in the house. Persons who worship their own Liá¹…gas shall, after the worship is over, offer as food those articles of diet to which they are accustomedâ€�.
According to the ÅšivapurÄṇa 1.22 while explaining the importance of the partaking of the Naivedya of Åšiva:—“[...] with regard to the following phallic images viz:—[...] ¸é²¹²õ²¹±ô¾±á¹…g²¹, [...], the partaking of the Naivedya of Åšiva is on a par with the rite of CÄndrÄyaṇa. Even the slayer of a brahmin if he partakes of the remains of the food offered to the God quells all his sins immediately [...]â€�.
