: History of Science in South Asia: Making Gems in Indian Alchemical Literature鲹ṇḍ (रसखण्ड) refers to the “section dedicated to mercury� of the 鲹ٲ첹 (lit. “jewel mine of mercury�): a 13th century alchemical work in Sanskrit written by Nityanātha.—The 鲹ٲ첹 consists of five parts (ṇḍ). The first section [i.e., the ṇḍ] is very similar in content to the oldest of the Sanskrit alchemical works. It describes the various ways in which mercury and a range of auxiliary substances are processed for their formulation into elixirs.

Āyurveda (आयुर्वेद, ayurveda) is a branch of Indian science dealing with medicine, herbalism, taxology, anatomy, surgery, alchemy and related topics. Traditional practice of Āyurveda in ancient India dates back to at least the first millenium BC. Literature is commonly written in Sanskrit using various poetic metres.
