: Asian Agri-History: Paśu Āyurvēda (Veterinary Medicine) in GaruḍapurāṇaPuṣṭyārtha (पुष्ट्यार्�) refers to “that which improves the body�, according to sections on Horses (Ҳܰ岹 or śܰ岹) in the Garuḍapurāṇa.—[Management of miscellaneous disorders]—The drugs along with decoction of ٰ are advised if the horse is affected by ṇa (ulcers)/ṣṭ/ñᲹ (lameness). The medicines should be administered with dzūٰ (cow’s-urine) in Ի岵Ծ (impaired digestion), śdzٳDz (swelling/oedema). If they are affected by ٲ辱ٳٲ, ṇa (ulcers) the ṛtṃyܰٲ-ǰṣīr (cow's milk along with ghee) is advised. If the horse is ṛṣ (emaciated), the diet shall be supplemented by ṃs (meat) for ṣṭٳ (to improve the body).

It always bestows peace, prosperity and wellness on its aspirant voluntarily just like a mother, and showers strength (ṣṭⲹٳ) like a father [pituriva ca ṣṭⲹٳ�]. It gives joy like one’s own spouse and showers knowledge even as a preceptor would do to a student. To put it succintly, the Garuḍamantra is on par with lord Hari himself in bestowing on his devotees, the best of everything desired by them, simultaneously assuring them of constant protection in this and the other world
