General definition (in Hinduism)
: atlan.org: The horse sacrificePramantha (प्रमन्).—The lighting of the New Fire was called Agnyadheya (“lighting of fires) and was an important preliminary at all Vedic sacrifices. The holy fire was lit by means of the Vedic fire-drill (pramantha). The pramantha has been associated by Max Mueller and other Sanskritists with the myth and the name of Prometheus. Prometheus is “the fire-bringer, just as is the pramantha. Also, its shape is cruciform, and is closely related to that of the Cross, a device again related to the Vedic firedrill, the pramantha. In fact, all this refers to the Cosmogonic Hierogamy, the marriage of Fire and Water, the enlightenment of the world that took place in Paradise, destroying all Creation.
