Source: Wisdom Library: Śilpa-śāstraʲٰ貹ṭṭ (पत्रपट्ट):—A Sanskrit word, translating to “string of leaves� binding the different kinds of knots of hair. This term is used in the Hindu art of scientific and religious sculpture, known as Śilpaśāstra.

Shilpashastra (शिल्पशास्त्र, śilpaśāstra) represents the ancient Indian science (shastra) of creative arts (shilpa) such as sculpture, iconography and painting. Closely related to Vastushastra (architecture), they often share the same literature.
