Purana and Itihasa (epic history)
: archive.org: Puranic Encyclopediaṃs貹岹 (नेमिहंसप�).—An important place in ancient India. The place is near Akṣaprapatanam in the Ānarta region. It was here that Kṛṣṇa killed Gopati and Tālaketu.

The Purana (पुरा�, purāṇas) refers to Sanskrit literature preserving ancient India’s vast cultural history, including historical legends, religious ceremonies, various arts and sciences. The eighteen mahapuranas total over 400,000 shlokas (metrical couplets) and date to at least several centuries BCE.
