: Project Gutenberg: Castes and Tribes of Southern India, Volume 1Koppula (“hair-knot�) refers to one of the exogamous septs (divisions) among the Mutrachas: a Telugu caste most numerous in the Kistna, Nellore, Cuddapah, and North Arcot districts. The Mutracha people were employed by the Vijayanagar kings to defend the frontiers of their dominions, and were honoured with the title of paligars.
