: Brill: Śaivism and the Tantric Traditions (architecture)ٳ (खरास्थ�) refers to the “bone of an ass�, according to the Devyāmata (in the section śǻ-貹ṭa or “excavation of extraneous substances�).—Accordingly, “[...] If a man steps over [a cord], there is a human bone [beneath the site]. If an ass (khara) [intrudes into the site] stepping over [a cord], there is the bone of an ass (ٳ) [beneath the site]. In this way, [the officiant] should examine extraneous substances by [the omens] such as stepping over and seeing�.

Vastushastra (वास्तुशास्त्�, vāstuśāstra) refers to the ancient Indian science (shastra) of architecture (vastu), dealing with topics such architecture, sculpture, town-building, fort building and various other constructions. Vastu also deals with the philosophy of the architectural relation with the cosmic universe.
