: Wikisource: A dictionary of Sanskrit grammarGoṣṭhac (गोष्ठच).—A tad.affix applied to words like गो (go) and others in the sense of 'a place'; cf. गेष्ठजादयः स्थानादिषु पशुनाम पशुन-मादिभ् उपसंख्यानम (geṣṭhajādaya sthānādiṣu paśunāma| paśunā-mādibhya upasaṃkhyānam) | गवां स्थानं गोगोष्ठम, अश्वगोष्ठम्ः महिषीगोष्ठम (gavā sthāna goṣṭm, aśvaṣṭm mahiṣīṣṭm) Kas.on P.v.2.29 It is very likely that words like गोष्, दघ्न (ṣṭ, daghna) and others were treated as pratyayas by Panini and katyayana who followed Panini, because they were found always associated with a noun preceding them and never independently.

Vyakarana (व्याकर, vyākaraṇa) refers to Sanskrit grammar and represents one of the six additional sciences (vedanga) to be studied along with the Vedas. Vyakarana concerns itself with the rules of Sanskrit grammar and linguistic analysis in order to establish the correct context of words and sentences.
