: What is India: Epigraphia Indica volume XXXI (1955-56)Egu is the name of a locality situated in Ko峁囜笉agu岣峣, according to the 鈥淕rants from Galavalli鈥� (893 A.D.). As indicated above, the endorsement engraved on the first side of the first plate consists of two stanzas. The first of these, which has been repeated, says that the illustrious Devendravarman, lord of Kali峁単a, received blessings from the god 艢iva and that he granted two localities called Yeg奴 or Egu and Mahanta, collectively known as Gi峁囜弓i and situated in Ko峁囜笉agu岣峣, in favour of Yog膩tman.
These plates (mentioning Egu) were dug up from the fields of a village in the Bobbili Taluk of the Srikakulam District, Andhra. It records the grant of three villages and is dated Ga峁単a year 397 (of the G膩峁単eya dynasty), corresponding to 893-95 A.D. The grant was made in favour of the deity Kau峁囜笉uka-Gu峁囜笉e艣vara.
