Source: Wisdom Library: Brihat Samhita by Varahamihira顿别惫补迟腻产丑补办迟补 (啶︵啶掂い啶距き啶曕啶�) or Devat膩sakta refers to 鈥渞eligious men鈥�, according to the B峁沨atsa峁僪it膩 (chapter 15) (鈥淥n the 苍补办峁迟谤补蝉鈥斺赌榓蝉迟别谤颈蝉尘蝉鈥欌赌�), an encyclopedic Sanskrit work written by Var膩hamihira mainly focusing on the science of ancient Indian astronomy astronomy (Jyoti峁).鈥擜ccordingly, 鈥淭hose who are born on the lunar day of Uttar膩峁D佱笉ha will be chief ministers or wrestlers; will keep elephants and horses, will be religious (诲别惫补迟腻产丑补办迟补); will be men of principles; soldiers; happy and of bright appearance. Those who are born on the lunar day of 艢rava峁嘺 will be cunning, of active habits, efficient workmen, bold, virtuous, god-fearing and truthful鈥�.

Jyotisha (啶溹啶啶むた啶�, 箩测辞迟颈峁 or jyotish) refers to 鈥榓stronomy鈥� or 鈥淰edic astrology鈥� and represents the fifth of the six Vedangas (additional sciences to be studied along with the Vedas). Jyotisha concerns itself with the study and prediction of the movements of celestial bodies, in order to calculate the auspicious time for rituals and ceremonies.
