Theravada (major branch of Buddhism)
: Pali Kanon: Pali Proper NamesA group of Khattiyas, owners of the Anaka drum (q.v.) (S.ii.266f). Buddhaghosa says (SA.ii.167) they were so called because they took one tenth of the corn (sassato dasabhagam ganhimsu, tasma Dasaraha ti pannayimsu). In the Kakkata Jataka (J.ii.344) they are referred to as the dasabhatikarajano.
Theravāda is a major branch of Buddhism having the the Pali canon (tipitaka) as their canonical literature, which includes the vinaya-pitaka (monastic rules), the sutta-pitaka (Buddhist sermons) and the abhidhamma-pitaka (philosophy and psychology).
