ٰṇa (अत्रिगुण) refers to “not constituted of the three ṇa.—Anything having parts is called ṃgٲ in the Sāṃkhya literature. A ṃgٲ, by nature, is ٰṇāt첹, i.e., constituted of three ṇa: sattva, rajas and tamas. The three ṇa sattva, rajas and tamas are respectively of the nature of pleasure (sukha), pain (ḥk) and indifference (moha). So, the element, which is able to realize pleasure, pain and indifference must be different from these three ṇa, and this element is ܰṣa.
