´¡²µ²Ô¾±±ô¾±á¹…g²¹ (अगà¥à¤¨à¤¿à¤²à¤¿à¤™à¥à¤—) refers to “phenomena connected with such sacred firesâ€�, according to the Bá¹›hatsaṃhitÄ (chapter 2), an encyclopedic Sanskrit work written by VarÄhamihira mainly focusing on the science of ancient Indian astronomy astronomy (Jyotiá¹£a).—Accordingly, “We shall now proceed to give a brief description of (the qualifications of) a Âá²â´Ç³Ù¾±á¹£a°ì²¹. [...] In YÄtrÄ, he must know the fitness or unfitness of a tithi (lunar day), ±¹Äå°ù²¹ (week day), °ì²¹°ù²¹á¹‡a, ²Ô²¹°ìá¹£a³Ù°ù²¹, ³¾³Ü³óÅ«°ù³Ù²¹, and lagna (a sign of zodiac) and yoga for particular purposes. He must be able to interpret natural gestures and dreams; he must be able to state when a prince ought to start for battle to secure success in war; he must be learned in rules relating to ablutions and sacred fire ceremonies in honour of the planets and offerings to evil spirits; he must be able to interpret phenomena connected with such sacred fires [i.e., ²¹²µ²Ô¾±±ô¾±á¹…g²¹] and with elephants and horses while mounting the sameâ€�.
