Lankavatara Sutra

by Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki | 1932 | 107,878 words | ISBN-13: 9789387496354

Summary: The English translation of the Lankavatara Sutra. This book recounts a teaching primarily between the Buddha and a Bodhisattva named Mahamati ("Great Wisdom"). The most important doctrine issuing from the Lankavatara Sutra is that of the primacy of consciousness (Sanskrit: vijnana) and the teaching of consciousness as the only reality.

In the Lankavatarasutra, the Buddha asserts that all the objects of the world, and the names and forms of experience, are merely manifestations of the mind.

Original title: Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra (लङ्कावता or लंकावतार सूत्), Laṅkāvatārasūtra (लङ्कावतारसूत्र or लंकावतारसूत्, Lankavatarasutra).
